Canada Study Visa

Every year, Canada welcomes approximately 350,000 international students to take professional, vocational or academic training at any Canadian college, university or other educational institution.

About Canada Study Visa

It s a document, which is issued by the immigration authority of Canada, i.e. IRCC. For all the foreign students, it serves as a permission document to study in Canada and they are not allowed to study until and unless they have a valid study permit. 

In addition to this, with a Canada student visa, you can enroll in DIL, i.e. Designated Learning Institutions, which means you can study in a provincial or territorial government approved institutions. So, before applying for a Canadian student visa, you need to obtain a letter of acceptance from DIL (Designated Learning Institute).

Eligibility Criteria for Canada Student Visa

In order to become eligible to apply, you must meet the following Canadian student visa requirements:

• You have to be accepted by and enrolled at a designated learning institute (DLI)?
• You must show adequate proof of funds to pay your course fee, travel expenses and living expenses?
  
• You must submit a police certificate to prove that you don t have any criminal record in the past?
  
• You have to go undergo a health examination and submit a medical certificate?
  
• You must clearly state your intentions to leave Canada after the completion of your course ?
  

As a part of the Canada student visa process, you are also requested to submit a list of mandatory documents as per the  document checklist, which is provided to you via email by the IRCC.

• A copy of letter of acceptance from a DLI
• Provide evidence of a passport
  
• Provide Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of $10,000 as your proof of funds
  
• Submit your biometric information like your photographs, fingerprints, etc.
  
• Your Medical and Police Certificates
  
• Proof of paying tuition fee for the first year
  
• Your language test proof with a minimum CLB 6 in English and CLB 7 in French 
  
• Your Statement of Purpose, which states the purpose of your trip and the reason behind choosing the particular institution
  
• You must meet the other basis criteria for Canadian study visa
  

Once you have gathered all the required documents as per the Canada student visa checklist, you can apply for the Student visa in Canada.

Application Process for Canada Study Visa

There are two options via which you can apply for the Student Visa, i.e. Online and On Paper .

In order to apply online, you have to create an online account on CIC (Canada Immigration and Citizenship) website and submit complete application and scanned copies of your documents. While, in case of an on-paper application, you have to send your completed application along with documents to a visa application center located in your area.

Once submitted, you have to wait till your student visa application gets processed by the Canadian immigration authority. But, there is no exact processing time being informed to you. Though an average processing time is generally up to 5 weeks, but, the Canada student visa processing time may vary depending upon different scenarios and it keeps updating as well on a weekly basis.

Apply for Canada Student Visa from India via Student Direct Stream (SDS)

The SDS is more efficient and faster application process to obtain your student visa. If you apply via SDS then the expected processing time is around 45 days or even less. But, to apply under SDS and study in a program of your choice at a DLI, you must possess strong language skills (English or French) Canada, for which you can take up IELTS coaching and gain proficiency in English language and perform better at IELTS. 

In order to qualify for the Student Direct Stream, you have met a set of eligibility requirements, which includes:

• A letter of admission from DLI
• Prove your French or English language proficiency
  
• Show proof of funds to support your education fee and living expenses
  
• Provide your medical examination and police clearance certificates
