Canada Immigration Plan 2022-2024- IRCC to welcome 432,000 New Comers in 2022

On February 14, 2022, the Canadian government released the details of its most ambitious Immigration Levels Plan for 2022-2024. Canada aims to invite 431,645 new comers as permanent residents in 2022, i.e., 20,645 more newcomers than IRCC’s initial plan.

The Canadian government has set a high target to support Canada’s labour force, population, and economic growth plans.

This is the first immigration level plan announced by Canada’s new immigration Minister, Hon. Sean Fraser. A few highlights of Canada’s Immigration Plan 2022-2024 include:

·        With approximately 60% of admissions via Economic Class programs, the government is focusing on long-term economic growth

·        By granting permanent residence to refugee claimants under Canada’s health care sector, the government is aiming to help vulnerable populations

·        By granting permanent status to temporary residents already living in Canada, the government is aiming for better talent retention

·        With humanitarian immigration, the government is aiming to support individuals facing persecution due to global crises

A rise in Francophone immigration targets

Additionally, Canada aims to increase Francophone immigration to achieve 2023 objectives of attracting and retaining 4.4% of French-speaking newcomers outside Quebec.

As per Canada’s Francophone Immigration Strategy, the following are three main objectives for supporting the vitality of the Francophone community:

1.      To meet a target of welcoming 4.4% of French-speaking newcomers outside Quebec by 2023.

2.      To support integration and retention of French-speaking newcomers.

3.      To strengthen Francophone communities.
