IRCC has selected 11 communities under its New Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

IRCC has selected 11 communities under its New Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

On 14th June 2019, total 11 Canadian communities have been chosen by the Canadian government to become a part of its newly launched Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot program, which is designed to support remote rural communities by inviting skilled foreign workers for permanent residency.

As per the figures released by IRCC, the rural communities of Canada employ more than four million Canadians, which is equivalent to about 30% of the nation s GDP.

With this new pilot program, the Government can help such communities fight with the shortage in the labour market, which is a result of the following factors:

  • Declining birth rates
  • Aging population
  • Increasing retirement rates
  • Youth immigrating to other populous Canadian regions

The 11 communities which were declared on 14th June are all located in Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Alberta. IRCC has also stated that "11 communities were selected based on their economic needs and the presence of resources and community partners required to administer the pilot, and will serve as a blueprint for the rest of the country.”

The selected communities are required to start looking for immigration candidates by the end of this fall as the selected candidates must arrive in Canada by 2020.

A table listed below can give you a better picture:

  • Fulfilling vacant job positions

What More can you Expect?

Since the pilot program is community driven, the communities will:

  • Support the pilot for prospective immigrants
  • Determine local job opportunities and find the right match for jobs
  • Recommend applicants to IRCC to apply for PR visa
  • Welcoming the immigrants wholeheartedly
