The new Labour Market Priorities Stream of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program is targeting general practitioners, specialist physicians and family physicians who have their Express Entry system profile to immigrate to the province.
To become eligible for a provincial nomination, an applicant is required to have a valid job offer from the NSHA (Nova Scotia Health Authority) or the Izaak Walton Killam Health (IWK) Centre in Halifax. He/she must commit to work and live in the province for 2 year period to be eligible to get selected via this new stream.
Presently, there is a total of 124 positions vacant on the job opportunities web page of NSHA and range across varied regions and specializations in the province. Since there is a shortage of family doctor in the province, the province is targeting to invest $39.6 million to increase the wages as well as office visit rates and offer the best technology to improve primary care access.
If you want to qualify for a provincial nomination in Nova Scotia via the Labour Market Priorities Stream for Physicians of NSNP, then you must have an Express Entry profile, which is considered as one of the key sources of skilled foreign talent in Canada.
The Express Entry system manages a candidate pool for key Federal High Skilled immigration streams of Canada. It holds regular rounds of invitation and invites highest-ranked candidates for Canadian PR.
All the eligible physicians under Express Entry pool are selected by the NSNP and they receive an LOI (Letter of Interest) via the Express Entry pool. They get a 30-day time limit from the issuance of NOI to apply for a provincial nomination from the province of Nova Scotia.
In addition to this, all those candidates who have obtained their provincial nomination will also get an additional 600 points against their Express Entry CRS score and are guaranteed to get an ITA (invitation to apply) for Canadian permanent residence.
The NSNP has also designed as dedicated Physician Stream which works outside the Express Entry pool.
