Ontario Invites 1,773 Express entry Candidates in Latest OINP- Tech Draw on August 1, 2019

Ontario province has issued 1,773 ITAs (Invitations to Apply) to those Express Entry candidates who have tech experience and have scored minimum CRS 435 points.

With the announcement of this second Tech Draw from Ontario since July, a total number of invitations or Notifications of Interest (NOIs) issued to Express Entry candidates have reached up to 3,396.

All those candidates who have received an ITA (invitations to apply) for a provincial nomination for permanent residence in Canada in the draw held on August 1 Tech Draw, must have created their Express Entry profiles between 1st August 2018 to 1st August 2019.

Being one of Canada’s major tech hubs, Ontario Tech Draws are specially designed to meet the growing needs of the labour market in the sector. As per CBRE Scoring Tech Talent Report, 2019, in last five years, more than 80,000 tech jobs have been created in Toronto, Ontario’s capital city.

Ontario conducts its Tech Draws via Ontario’s Human Capital Priorities Stream that is managed by the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program via which Ontario selects eligible candidates from the Express Entry pool and send them invites to apply for Provincial Nomination.

The OINP searches the Express Entry Candidates who:

  • Meet the eligibility criteria of Human Capital Priorities Stream
  • Have valid work experience in one of the six targeted NOC (National Occupational Classification) codes

Ontario Tech Draws Targets Express Entry Candidates who have Work Experience in any one of the 6 below listed Tech Occupations:

  • Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
  • Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
  • Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
  • Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
  • Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)
  • Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)

Though a job offer is not required to be eligible, a candidate must create an Express Entry profile and must have work experience in one of the six above-listed occupations to be eligible to obtain an invitation from Ontario. As the purpose behind these Tech Draws is to identify applicants who are technologically skilled in the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) Express Entry pool.

If a candidate is identified by OINP in the pool, he/she receives a Notification of Interest in their IRCC online account. He/she must submit an online application to OINP within 45 days time of receiving their NOI.

The application will be processed and a decision for granting or refusing the application will be taken as per the Ontario Immigration Act and regulations.
