New Rules for Canada Study Visa 2024

Canada is known for its world-class education system. The country offers a plethora of courses for International students and fascinates Indian students as well towards its newfangled study techniques and welcoming culture.

Recently, Canada has announced new rules for Canada study visa, i.e. SDS (Study Direct Stream) to apply for the study visa.

One of the leading financial institutions of Canada is Scotiabank, who is one of the biggest supporters of the Study Direct Stream.

In other terms, this institution helps and support students financially who wish to pursue their higher studies in Canada. Scotiabank offers an opportunity to deserving and eligible students to buy a GIC, i.e. a Guaranteed Investment Certificate.

This new Canada student visa rule is quite beneficial in comparison to the old one as students will get financial help and support directly from the Scotiabank. This, in turn, will reduce the financial burden to an extent for the students.

Since with every passing year, more Canadian visa applicants have been appearing, the chances of brilliant students getting the opportunity are diminishing.

Lack of seats prevents eligible students from joining top Canadian Universities or Colleges in their preferred courses.

So, this newly launched SDS can provide better opportunities for the students to have the talent to study abroad. Moreover, this new SDS Program will also speed up the overall processing time for full-time Canada Student Visa.

Few Highlights of Newly Launched Canada Student Visa Rules 2023

  • SDS or Study Direct Stream has replaced the SPP (Student Partners Program), which was started in the year 2009.
  • The major change in this newly announced rule is the points/band requirement. Every student is required to obtain 6 bands in every module in order to become eligible to apply under the SDS (Study Direct Stream) rule.
  • Students are required to make the annual fee payment instead of semester wise fee payment structure. If a student with a band score of 6 (each module) fails to pay the annual fee and has paid only one semester s fee, then that student s file will be considered to be processed under the general visa category.
  • SDS is linked directly to the students, in contrast to the SPP, which was linked with the college or university
