On 24th September, The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, the Hon. Marco Mendicino, made an announcement to speed up spousal application processing.
This decision came up as a relief for those families who wish to build their beautiful lives together on the Canadian land.
Keeping in mind how difficult last few months have been for families, the Canadian government is keen on working towards finding new ways to keep the loved ones together.
Thus, the IRCC has planned to accelerate the approval rate of spousal applications up to an extent possible.
The department decided to take quick measures for reviewing and finalizing up to 6,000 spousal sponsorship applications in 2020 on a monthly basis between the month of October and December.
To meet the targets, more number of decision makers will work upon on reviewing the spousal applications, i.e. an increase of staff up to 66%.
This augmentation will help the IRCC review and process the applications quickly and reduce the overall waiting time for couples.
Canada Waived off Biometrics Requirement for Exempted PR Applicants
IRCC is incorporating new technology in this pilot program with an aim to digitize old paper-based applications.
Since most of the IRCC's employees are either working remotely or at different worksites, this decision of complete overhauling will help them process the applications more efficiently.
Additionally, IRCC is also planning to implement helpful biometrics measures in upcoming weeks and to conduct applicant's interview remotely, in compliance with public health protocols.
All the initiatives to be taken by IRCC would aim towards accelerating, prioritizing and finalizing around 6,000 spousal applications on a monthly basis starting from October to December 2020.
If things goes as planned, it is expected that around 49,000 applications will get the final decision by the end of 2020.
