Canada Express Entry manages PR applications under Canadian immigration programs.
The eligibility for a permanent residency is determined by considering six selection factors like age, skills, education, work experience and adaptability of the visa application.
Applicants falling under the Federal Program submit their online profile to the pool of Express Entry to receive an invitation from the Canadian Government to apply for a permanent residency visa.
The employers and provincial governments in Canada access the applicants by the means of this express entry draw system and issue an invitation to applicants (ITA).
The Canadian Government conducts the express entry draw and issue application invitations at regular intervals.
The first express entry draw of 2022 was conducted on January 5, 2022. In this draw, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 392 candidates with provincial nominations to apply for Canada PR.
This Express Entry system organizes the pool of candidates for Canada’s three main federal immigration programs, including, Federal Skilled Trades Class, the Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Worker Class.
In 2021, the IRCC created a record by issuing maximum number of ITAs to Express Entry candidates in single year. This year too, the Express Entry invitation target is high (i.e., 110,500 ITAs).
Let’s take a look at the round of invitations issued in the year 2023, 2022 & 2021:

IRCC Express Entry system manages immigration applications for three immigration programs and to get considered for any of the three programs, an applicant needs to submit an online profile online to the express entry pool of candidates.?
The Canadian government conducts the draw approximately every two weeks.
Each draw has a cut-off score, representing the CRS score of the candidate with lowest-rank to receive an Invitation to Apply for a permanent residency visa in Canada.
Once an applicant receives an ITA, he/she is awarded 60 days time to complete and submit the application for Permanent Residence, which is also called eAPR (Electronic Application for Permanent Residence).
The tie-breaking rule is used in the event where multiple candidates score in the minimum cut-off score. In such a scenario, IRCC uses the tie-breaking rule to control the total number of ITAs issued. The candidates who score above or at the cut-off score and submit a profile before the tie-breaking rule will get an invitation to apply.
Before each draw, IRCC publishes information about the Express Entry pool composition. You can have a look at the CRS score distribution in the Express Entry pool below:
